Ingredients:
- 2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls (do not separate rolls)
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 4 cups green cabbage, shredded
- 1 large yellow onion, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 cups Mozzarella cheese, grated
- Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste
Instructions:
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously greasing a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray. Set aside for later use.
- Unroll one tube of crescent rolls but keep the sheet intact, then place it in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Bake for 5 minutes to partially cook the dough.
- Meanwhile, in a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it is no longer pink, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat as needed, then push the cooked beef to the outer edges of the skillet.
- Add the butter to the center of the skillet and allow it to melt. Once melted, add the finely chopped onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 2 minutes until the onions are translucent.
- Incorporate the shredded cabbage into the skillet with the onions and beef. Cook until the cabbage is wilted and tender, adjusting the seasoning as needed. This usually takes about 5 minutes.
- Spread the cooked beef and cabbage mixture evenly over the partially baked crescent roll sheet in the baking dish. Sprinkle the grated Mozzarella cheese on top.
- Carefully unroll the second tube of crescent rolls and place the sheet over the filling in the baking dish, covering it completely.
- Bake the Runza Casserole in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is beautifully golden brown.
- Once baked to perfection, remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve slices of this savory Runza Casserole warm and enjoy the comforting flavors and textures that will surely delight your palate.
All of these look GREAT
