Cherry Pie Bars

Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) softened butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Instructions :

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and lightly grease a baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until it’s creamy and smooth.
  3. To the creamed mixture, beat in 2 eggs, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon almond extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, a little at a time, until fully combined.
  6. Open a can of cherry pie filling and have it ready for the next step.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Gently place the cherry pie filling on top without blending it into the batter.
  8. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the edges are slightly crispy.
  9. Remove the pan from the oven and let the cherry bars cool to room temperature.
  10. If you desire, you can drizzle some glaze over the top for extra sweetness.
  11. Cut the cherry bars into portions, and serve them up for a delightful treat.
  12. If there are any leftovers, store them in an airtight container to enjoy later.
