Ingredients :
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions :
- Prepare the patties: In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, garlic powder, thyme, salt, and pepper until well combined. Shape the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties.
- Sear the patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Make the onion gravy: In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the sliced onions and sauté until caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it forms a roux.
- Simmer the gravy: Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring no lumps. Bring to a simmer and cook until the gravy thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Combine and serve: Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, nestling them in the gravy. Simmer for 10-12 minutes until cooked through. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or rice.Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cooking Time: 30 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutesKcal: 380 kcal | Servings: 4 servings
